Ai Pono Hawaii

Ai Pono Hawaii

‘”Ai” meaning, “to eat or nourish,” and “pono” meaning, “with ease, naturally, and in order and wholeness.” JCAHO accredited and licensed by the Hawaii Department of Health, ‘Ai Pono Hawaii Residential Treatment Center offers evidence-based, trauma-informed holistic eating disorder treatment in a peaceful home-like setting with picturesque views of the ocean (just footsteps away), mountains, and lush gardens. Our treatment approach was designed to incorporate Dr. Anita Johnston’s book, “Eating in the Light of the Moon” as well as to reflect our surroundings – a peaceful and nurturing space that helps women reconnect to their inner selves.

At ‘Ai Pono, we recognize that eating disorders are complex problems with emotional, nutritional, and biochemical components, but we do not view those who struggle with these problems as irreparably damaged. Rather, we see these individuals as highly intuitive, sensitive beings who developed an obsession with food as a way of coping with social and psychological stress. Our primary therapeutic modalities are attachment-based and person-centered, utilizing DBT, CBT, and traditional talk therapy while also integrating expressive therapies, yoga, horticultural therapy, sound therapy, and more. In addition to our women’s residential program, we also offer a women’s Partial Hospitalization (Day) Program in Maui and a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program that is open to Hawaii residents of all genders. All levels of care are accessible to ages 13+. We contract with most major insurance providers and will provide a complimentary benefits check and phone assessment.
